Trojan Barbie takes audiences on a riveting journey, blending mythology, history, and contemporary themes. This thought-provoking play tells the compelling story of Lotte, a doll repair expert, who finds herself unexpectedly transported to war-torn Troy. As Lotte grapples with her newfound reality, she becomes intertwined with the iconic characters of Greek mythology, encountering the courageous Hecuba and Talthybius.
As Lotte navigates the ruins of Troy, she must confront the devastating consequences of war, including the brutal treatment of women. "Trojan Barbie" delves into the complexities of human nature, exploring the resilience and transformation of these women as they confront their traumas and fight to reclaim their identity. Interlaced with wit and dark humor, this play delves into timely issues such as the power dynamics between genders and the echoes of war that continue to impact society.
The props for this production were an exploration of the clash between ancient and modern, militaristic and childlike as we sought to expose the horrors of war through the symbolism of dolls. This production also had six non-firing prop AK-47s, which required strict handling and intense safety training.
